From one of Mercurey’s most important monopole vineyards, Faiveley Le Clos des Myglands 1er Cru captures the depth and structure that define the Côte Chalonnaise at its best. Domaine Faiveley, founded in 1825, is one of Burgundy’s great historic houses, now led by the seventh generation, combining tradition with precision viticulture. Clos des Myglands, a walled vineyard owned entirely by the domaine, sits on clay limestone soils that give Pinot Noir both power and finely etched minerality.
A deep ruby garnet with vibrant clarity fills the glass. Aromas unfold with red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry layered with rose petal, spice and subtle notes of forest floor and crushed stone. There is an immediate sense of concentration balanced by lift and detail.
The palate is medium to full bodied and structured, delivering ripe red and dark berry fruit framed by fine, firm tannins and fresh acidity. Notes of cranberry, clove and earthy savoury nuance build through the mid palate, leading to a long, persistent finish that feels both grounded and refined. This Premier Cru has the depth to age beautifully over ten to fifteen years, developing truffle, dried florals and complex undergrowth character.
Duck confit with crisp skin, mushroom and thyme ragù folded through pasta, or roasted quail with herbs shared across the table. A vinyl spin of Bach’s Cello Suites or something equally timeless, the wine unfolding slowly, each layer revealing itself with quiet confidence.
