Fat Bastard Pinot Noir is a fruit-forward, easy-drinking red that leans into ripeness and approachability rather than Burgundian restraint. Made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Languedoc region of southern France, it’s part of the Fat Bastard range created by Thierry Boudinaud and Guy Anderson, known for crafting plush, full-flavoured wines with wide appeal and a touch of irreverence.
The grapes benefit from warm Mediterranean sunshine and cool nighttime breezes, allowing them to ripen fully while retaining some acidity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with a portion aged briefly in oak to add softness and subtle spice.
On the nose, it shows juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, baking spice and a touch of vanilla. The palate is smooth and rounded, with flavours of ripe strawberry, plum, and soft spice, underpinned by mellow tannins and gentle acidity. It’s an unpretentious, medium-bodied wine made for relaxed enjoyment.
Food pairing: ideal with roast chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom pizza, duck sausages, or pasta with tomato and basil. Also pairs nicely with soft cheeses or even slightly chilled on a warm day.
Cellar potential: best enjoyed young within 2 to 4 years while its fruit is vibrant and supple.
