Gibson The Dirtman Shiraz from the Barossa Valley is a bold and charismatic wine that proudly wears its origins in the warm, sun drenched vineyards of the region. Winemaker Rob Gibson, known affectionately as The Dirtman thanks to his decades spent mapping and studying Barossa soils, has crafted this Shiraz as a celebration of the land itself. Fruit is sourced from a mix of carefully selected sites featuring ancient red clays, sandy loams and ironstone, each contributing richness, spice and structural depth. Gentle handling and thoughtful maturation in a blend of French and American oak help shape a wine that is plush, flavoursome and unmistakably Barossa, yet always guided by Gibson’s focus on vineyard expression.

The aromas are generous and enticing. Blackberry, plum and black cherry form the core, enriched by dark chocolate, vanilla bean, licorice and warm baking spice. Subtle earthy notes whisper of iron rich soils and sun warmed vines, while hints of violet and black pepper add lift. As the wine opens, mocha, cedar and smoked meat complexity emerge, deepening the intrigue.

On the palate it is full bodied, smooth and richly layered. Ripe berry fruit washes across supple yet confident tannins, bringing flavours of mulberry, cherry liqueur, cocoa and a touch of clove. A fine line of acidity keeps the wine lively despite its generous weight, driving a long finish filled with dark fruit, spice and a kiss of caramel oak. It is already beautifully open and rewarding but has the structure to age gracefully for eight to ten years, gathering savoury nuances along the way.
