This wine was born in 2008, from the desire of head viticulturalist and winemaker, Ayana Misawa, to make a dry rosé with structure in Japan.
The varietal composition changes from year to year, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grown at the Misawa Vineyard without herbicides or chemical fertilizers applied are separated into small lots and are fermented separately by direct press and the Saignée method, followed by maturation in old French oak barrels. By doing so, the wine expresses both the complexity of the varietal characters and the sense of place.
Grace Wine Rosé from Japan is a delicate and refreshing expression of Japanese winemaking, produced by the pioneering Grace Winery in Yamanashi Prefecture. This rosé is crafted primarily from the Koshu grape, Japan’s native variety, which thrives in Yamanashi’s cool mountain climate and volcanic soils. Grace Winery, celebrated for its commitment to sustainable practices and minimal intervention, brings out Koshu’s natural acidity and finesse in this rosé, creating a wine that reflects the elegance and purity of Japanese terroir.
Winemaker Ayana Misawa focuses on preserving the fruit’s vibrant character, using gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel to retain the Koshu’s fresh aromatics. The result is a rosé with a beautiful pale pink hue and a crisp, lively profile.
Grace Wine Rosé offers aromas of wild strawberry, white peach, and citrus blossom, complemented by subtle hints of minerality. On the palate, it is light and refreshing, with flavors of red berries, green apple, and a touch of saline, balanced by a clean acidity that leads to a smooth, bright finish. This rosé pairs beautifully with sushi, sashimi, and light salads, making it a versatile and refined choice for lovers of delicate, food-friendly wines.
