2023 Jane Eyre Cote de Nuits Rouge, Burgundy

The Jane Eyre Côte de Nuits Rouge is a beautifully balanced Burgundy that brings together fruit from several carefully chosen village-level parcels across the Côte de Nuits. Jane Eyre, the Australian-born micro-négociant who has built a reputation in both France and Australia, crafts her wines in small volumes with a minimal-intervention approach, letting each site’s character shine. The Côte de Nuits, running from just south of Dijon down to Corgoloin, is home to some of Burgundy’s most celebrated Pinot Noir vineyards, and even at the regional level it delivers wines of perfume, structure and elegance.

In the glass, this wine shows a vibrant ruby red. The nose is fragrant and inviting, with red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry lifted by notes of rose petals, spice and a gentle forest floor earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with bright red fruit flavours framed by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Subtle oak brings spice and balance, while the finish is long, elegant and savoury, showing the finesse typical of the Côte de Nuits.

Food pairings are versatile and classic: roast duck with orange glaze, mushroom fricassée, herb-roast chicken, or chargrilled salmon. It also works beautifully with charcuterie and soft cheeses like Brie or Délice de Bourgogne. Designed to be approachable in its youth but with the structure to improve, it will cellar gracefully for 8 to 12 years, gaining truffle, dried herb and savoury complexity.
