Perched high on the slopes above the village, Les Folatières is one of the most celebrated Premier Cru vineyards of Puligny Montrachet. The name refers to the breezy, windswept nature of the hillside, a factor that helps keep the vines healthy while preserving freshness in the grapes. The thin limestone soils here produce wines of striking elegance and aromatic lift. Domaine Jean Louis Chavy is a respected family estate with deep roots in Puligny Montrachet, where generations of the Chavy family have cultivated Chardonnay on some of the village’s finest slopes. Today Jean Louis Chavy continues that legacy with careful vineyard management and precise winemaking that allows the purity and energy of the terroir to shine.
The wine shows a pale gold colour with brilliant clarity. Aromas open with lemon zest, white peach and ripe pear layered with white blossom, crushed stone and delicate hazelnut. With time in the glass subtle notes of almond, citrus curd and gentle brioche begin to appear, adding depth while preserving the wine’s freshness. The palate is vibrant and beautifully structured with flavours of citrus and orchard fruit supported by bright acidity and a chalky mineral backbone drawn from the limestone soils. Les Folatières is known for its finesse and lifted aromatics, finishing long and refined with impressive precision.
This is a high quality Puligny Montrachet that will evolve gracefully for fifteen years or more and is excellent with lobster, scallops, grilled turbot or refined seafood dishes.
