The Mader family have been farming the vineyards of Hunawihr for generations, producing wines that reflect the charm and precision of one of Alsace's most picturesque villages. Jean Luc Mader continues this tradition with a light touch in the cellar, allowing the region's cool climate, ancient soils and classic varieties to speak clearly through the finished wine.
The vineyards surrounding Hunawihr sit amongst some of Alsace's most prized sites, where a patchwork of limestone and clay soils gives Riesling its trademark combination of aromatic purity and mineral drive. The 2023 vintage has delivered wines of excellent balance, combining vibrant fruit with freshness and energy.
The colour is a bright pale straw with youthful green highlights. Aromas of freshly squeezed lime, green apple and white nectarine leap from the glass, accompanied by hints of jasmine, lemon blossom and wet stone. The palate is lively and refreshing, with flavours of citrus and orchard fruits framed by crisp acidity and a fine mineral thread. There is lovely purity and precision here, finishing dry, bright and mouth watering.
Serve alongside freshly shucked oysters, grilled South Australian prawns, Vietnamese rice paper rolls with herbs and seafood, or a simple asparagus and goat cheese tart. Enjoy over the next five to seven years while its youthful freshness and aromatic charm are at their peak.
