Jean Paul Dubost Beaujolais-Lantignié Rouge is a vibrant and expressive red wine that captures the essence of the Gamay grape and the character of Lantignié, a village poised to be one of Beaujolais’ next standout crus. Produced by Jean Paul Dubost, a fourth-generation vigneron known for his dedication to organic and sustainable practices, this wine exemplifies the purity, freshness, and drinkability for which Beaujolais is renowned.

The vineyards in Lantignié are located on rolling hills with granitic soils, similar to the famed Beaujolais crus. This terroir imparts minerality and structure to the wine, while the region’s moderate climate allows the Gamay grapes to develop ripe fruit flavors balanced by refreshing acidity. The estate practices organic viticulture, enhancing biodiversity and soil health to produce grapes of exceptional quality.

In the winery, the focus is on minimal intervention to highlight the natural qualities of the fruit and the terroir. The Gamay grapes are harvested by hand and undergo semi-carbonic maceration, a traditional Beaujolais winemaking technique that enhances the wine’s vibrant fruit aromas and silky texture. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, and the wine is aged in neutral vessels to preserve its fresh, fruit-forward character.

In the glass, Jean Paul Dubost Beaujolais-Lantignié Rouge displays a bright ruby hue. The nose is exuberant, offering aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and strawberries, along with floral notes of violets and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, with juicy red fruit flavors, soft tannins, and a lively acidity that carries through to a clean, refreshing finish.

This wine is incredibly versatile and pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes, from charcuterie and roasted chicken to grilled salmon and vegetarian fare like ratatouille. It also shines slightly chilled as a perfect accompaniment to warm weather dining.

Crafting stunning Beaujolais crus since 1902

This beautiful estate, established in 1902, is managed by fourth generation vigneron Jean-Paul Dubost who took over from his father in 1992. Jean-Paul is farming the 22 hectare estate organically and non-interventionalist philosophy is carried through to the winemaking. JP uses no chemicals and minimal sulphur. His view is that this allows him to produce wines that express the quality of gamay and the specific terroirs of his vineyards. He is extremely fortunate to have some ancient vines and this is reflected in the quality of all of his wines, not least the Beaujolais-Villages.

The estate now extends over 37 hectares around Lantignie (Moulin a Vent, Fleurie, Brouilly, Morgon and Regnie). Gamay is of course the king grape variety. Jean-Paul, still not giving in to fashions, is a fan of ripe grapes cut at advanced ripeness.

The grapes are then macerated over long period (sometimes over 1 month!) to extract all the phenolic matter and limit the use of sulfur as much as possible.

Wines of great structure, concentration and vibrancy.
