GSM Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro is a blend that shows very differently depending on where it comes from. In Clare Valley the cool nights and continental conditions keep everything lifted and aromatic rather than heavy and jammy, and Kilikanoon, who grow more Grenache here than almost anyone, know exactly how to work with it.
The 2023 season was kind mild temperatures through the growing period gave a long, slow ripening window, with good natural acidity and flavour development at lower sugar levels. Each variety was fermented and matured separately in seasoned French oak for 12 months before blending, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a blend that holds together with a clean, natural generosity.
Dark cherry, rose petal and warm spice on the nose. The palate is juicy and medium-bodied with soft, rounded tannins, blueberry and plum fruit, a cocoa edge and a smooth finish that makes it very easy company. Not a wine to overthink.
Lamb kofta, slow-cooked pork, Korean BBQ or a simple mezze spread. Good BYO territory.
Drink now through 2027.
