A never-fail rendition of pinot gris although quite a tight, restrained style this vintage. Plenty of poached, candied and fresh pears all spiced up with ginger and cinnamon. A fine layer of lees adding to some palate weight and a light phenolic pull on the finish. Savoury, moreish and refreshing. Lovely drinking here.

Kooyong Beurrot Pinot Gris from the Mornington Peninsula is a beautifully expressive and textural cool-climate white wine that highlights the elegance and complexity of this renowned Victorian wine region. The Mornington Peninsula, with its maritime influence, rolling hills, and cool breezes, provides the perfect environment for Pinot Gris to ripen slowly, developing vibrant aromatics and layered flavors while retaining refreshing acidity. Kooyong, known for its meticulous vineyard management and hands-off winemaking approach, produces the Beurrot Pinot Gris with a focus on showcasing the purity of fruit and the distinct characteristics of the region’s unique terroir.

On the palate, Kooyong Beurrot Pinot Gris offers a delightful combination of ripe pear, white nectarine, and crisp red apple, balanced by subtle notes of honeysuckle, ginger, and a touch of almond. A gentle minerality and a hint of spice add depth, while the wine’s time spent on lees contributes a creamy texture that enhances its richness and complexity. Despite its generosity of flavor, the wine retains a lively acidity that keeps it fresh and well-structured, leading to a long, clean finish with lingering citrus and floral notes.

Kooyong Beurrot Pinot Gris pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, making it an ideal companion for creamy seafood pastas, roast chicken with herbs, and light Asian-inspired cuisine such as Thai salads and Vietnamese spring rolls. Its textural richness also allows it to complement soft cheeses like Brie and washed-rind styles. Whether enjoyed now for its vibrant fruit or cellared for a few years to develop further complexity, this Pinot Gris offers a sophisticated and satisfying drinking experience.
