I’ve always had a soft spot for this shiraz – it just appeals on so many levels and is ridiculously priced (as in a bargain!). Be greeted by a brilliant dark purple hue, a wave of florals and a baker’s spice range, plus some charry oak. Fuller-bodied, plump, ripe and textural tannins in unison with fresh acidity give an overall vibrancy. Ends with simple drinking pleasure.

From the historic vineyards of Langhorne Creek, Section 54 Shiraz from Lake Breeze Wines captures the generous fruit and easy drinkability the region is known for. Lake Breeze is one of the oldest family owned wineries in Langhorne Creek, with the Follett family farming the land since the late nineteenth century. Today the estate is run by winemaker Greg Follett, whose approach combines traditional vineyard knowledge with modern winemaking to produce wines that offer both character and outstanding value. Section 54 takes its name from a parcel of the original family property, reflecting the deep connection between the wine and the land it comes from.
The wine shows a deep crimson colour with rich purple tones. Aromas open with ripe blackberry, dark plum and black cherry layered with hints of pepper, liquorice and gentle spice. As the wine develops in the glass subtle notes of chocolate and vanilla begin to appear. The palate is generous and full flavoured with smooth tannins carrying flavours of dark berries, plum and soft spice across a supple frame. Langhorne Creek’s warm climate and rich soils bring depth and concentration while the winemaking preserves freshness and balance.
The finish is long and satisfying with plenty of ripe fruit. It is an excellent value Shiraz that drinks beautifully now and suits barbecue meats, grilled lamb, hearty pasta dishes or casual weeknight meals.
