2023 Lethbridge Springbank Pinot Noir, Moorabool Valley

From a vineyard planted in '95 next door to By Farr. A deep crimson ruby. Darkly fruited with its bouquet of dark cherry, damson plum, rose bush and aromatic spices. Just as good on the concentrated, structured and beautifully balanced palate. A seriously good wine that should age superbly for the next 10 years at a minimum. Drink to 2036.

The Springbank Pinot Noir comes from a Bannockburn vineyard with red clay over limestone and ironstone buckshot, planted to MV6, 114, and 115 clones in 2001. Hand-picked and wild-fermented with around 50% whole bunches, it is matured in 50% new French oak and bottled un-fined and unfiltered, reflecting a precise, minimal-intervention approach. The 2023 vintage was cool and low-yielding with a long ripening season, notably a standout year for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with Moorabool Valley vineyards in particular producing particularly elegant wines. 

Pairs beautifully with charcuterie featuring duck rillettes and aged salami or confit duck leg with cherries. Vegetarian dishes shine too: roasted beets with goat cheese and walnuts, or eggplant caponata that plays to the wine's savory complexity. Aged Gruyère or soft triple cream cheeses provide excellent companions.
