The 2023 vintage brought a long, slow ripening season to South Australia — ideal conditions for Tempranillo, a variety that rewards patience. Michael Sexton sources fruit from two sites, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale, blending them to capture the full character of the grape rather than the identity of a single region. Partial carbonic maceration keeps things fresh and fruit-forward, with ten days on skins and six months in older French oak adding just enough structure without getting in the way.
The result is exactly what good Tempranillo should be — generous and a little bit joyful. Red and black cherry, warm spice and a touch of dried herbs on the nose. The palate is plump and medium-bodied with soft tannins, bright acidity and a savoury finish that lingers just long enough to make you reach for another glass.
Lamb, chorizo, anything off the grill. Or simply on its own while dinner is still being sorted.
Drink now through 2027.
