This is sourced from the excellent Mount Barrow vineyard in Mount Barker. It’s the pinot that gets you into the journey, but it is a whole lot more than an entry level. The colour is quite light but vibrant and brilliant. The nose is intense with a whack of plum and cherry. On the palate the vibrant primary frit is underpinned by a slightly charry mushroom-like character. Spices, cloves and a lift of sour cherry completes a mighty impressive wine.”

An impressive line-up across the Marchand & Burch range with the ’23 vintage. This, as fragrant as a spring garden with roses and blossoms, the palate strewn with wild strawberries and spiced rhubarb compote with flecks of mint and basil. It feels light and juicy, although the textural tannins give some depth and body while the refreshing acidity keeps everything afloat.

The powerful seductive perfume of Pinot – rose and violet, sweet damp earth, cinnamon, strawberry and the characteristic yet elusive note of ripe whole bunches – enrich the heady bouquet of this wine to the point where tasting seems almost secondary. When encountered, the palate delivers sweet red fruits, rhubarb, green tea and fresh shaved truffle, with a moreish sappiness and silky texture that prolongs the sweet / savoury contrast and preserves the intensity of flavour and aroma to leave a lasting impression of rich and persistent complexity.
