From the spiritual home of fine Pinot Grigio, Italy, this is a deep yellow but the grape does naturally have an extra level of colour and it is certainly on display here. This is a riper style than some, but the usual crispness is with us as well. Stonefruit notes with peaches, figs and lemon curd. Very good flavours here and a slightly crunchy but seductive texture, bright acidity with very good balance and length. A really good Italian Pinot Grigio for enjoying over the next four to five years.

The Mezzacorona Maso di Mezzo Pinot Grigio is a crisp, high-altitude white that captures the elegance and freshness of northern Italy in every glass. Though Mezzacorona is based in Trentino-Alto Adige, this particular bottling comes from select hillside vineyards in the Veneto, where cooler alpine breezes, limestone soils, and wide day-night temperature swings shape Pinot Grigio with lifted aromatics and brilliant natural acidity.

Maso di Mezzo means “middle farm,” referring to the gently sloping vineyards located between the valley floor and the higher elevations of the Dolomites. These sites are prized for their balance—enough sunlight to ripen the fruit cleanly, but enough altitude to preserve the delicacy and tension Pinot Grigio needs to shine. The grapes are harvested early in the morning to retain their perfume and freshness, then fermented in stainless steel to protect purity and precision.

The nose is bright and expressive, with white pear, golden apple, lemon blossom and a hint of wet stone. On the palate, it's light to medium-bodied with crisp citrus, green melon, almond skin and a savoury mineral twist on the finish. There’s no flab here—just clean lines, a slight textural roundness from time on lees, and a mouthwatering, food-friendly finish.

This is the sort of Pinot Grigio that thrives at the table. Think grilled prawns with lemon and parsley, prosciutto-wrapped rockmelon, or a classic Venetian seafood risotto. It’s also a top contender for aperitivo hour, especially with marinated olives or white anchovies on crusty bread.

While Mezzacorona is one of Italy’s largest cooperatives, their Maso series highlights single-vineyard and high-quality site expressions, and the Maso di Mezzo consistently overdelivers for the price.
