Deep red with a tint of purple; flowery and fresh green herbal aromas, the palate is intense and full, with ample cherry and plum flavours laced with dried herbs, a lovely core of sweet ripe fruit, the finish lingering on well with fine, drying tannins. Delicious! 24 Jul 2025 Drink 2025–2037

Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir from the Mornington Peninsula is a quietly confident, beautifully detailed wine that captures the essence of this cool-climate coastal region. It’s expressive without being showy, layered but never heavy, a Pinot that speaks softly but says a lot.

Crafted by Richard McIntyre and his small family-run team, this estate-grown Pinot is all about thoughtful viticulture and sensitive winemaking. The vineyards are located on the Peninsula’s north-facing slopes, with volcanic and clay-rich soils that help produce fruit with purity, depth, and fine structure. The maritime influence brings cool nights and long ripening, which gives the wine its trademark perfume and balanced acidity.

Fermentation is wild, using native yeasts, and a portion of whole bunches is included to add aromatic lift and gentle spice. The wine is matured in French oak, mostly older barrels, for finesse rather than flavour, allowing the fruit and site to shine through.

In the glass, it opens with aromas of cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and subtle forest floor. The palate is silky and savoury, with red fruit, earthy spice, and fine-grained tannins all gliding into a long, elegant finish. There’s both brightness and seriousness here—something that invites both contemplation and casual sipping.

Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir is a quintessential Mornington expression, made for roast duck, grilled mushrooms, or a quiet evening with a good glass and better company.
