2023 Parker Estate Scarlett Block Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra

The light- to medium-bodied Scarlett Block is made in an early-drinking style, offering easy, everyday drinking with attractive blackberry and boysenberry flavours and finishes with savoury notes.

The Scarlett is a section of Parker Estate’s original Abbey Vineyard. The grapes for this wine were picked using a Pellenc Select Harvester which de-stems the bunches in the vineyard to deliver pristine whole berries to the winery. These were fermented in open stainless ten-tonne fermenters for an average of 12 days. The wine completed malolactic fermentation before an eleven-month maturation in French oak barriques of which a quarter were new.

Parker Estate was established by John and Faye Parker’s 1985 planting of the Abbey Vineyard in Coonawarra with the Reynell Selection of Cabernet Sauvignon. Current owners, the Hesketh family through their Usual Suspects Collective, acquired the estate in 2013. The vineyards sit over a limestone base beneath rich Terra Rossa topsoil, a distinctive combination that has been the foundation of the region’s fame.
