2023 Penna Lane Watervale Riesling, Clare Valley

From the Koerner family's Gullyview vineyard. Notable for its concentration of flavour, a big tick to start, freshness and general sense of vitality. It feels like a lot is going on in its compact textural space, with juicy red apples, ginger, green mango, quince and lime. Fresh as can be, frisky and yet a quiet savouriness under it all lending some charisma and counterbalance to the zing of that tangy acid. Immediately likeable, is the message, and a strong and distinct regional character, too. A winner.

From vines planted in 1979, the 2022 Watervale Riesling shows typical concentrated fruit flavours powered by lime juice and hints of passionfruit flavours that Watervale is renowned for. As the wine ages it will develop notes of honey and toast which will complement the wines fruitiness and crispness. Cellar 10+ years.
