Half Bottle 375ml

A delightful pinot noir that features 18% whole bunch and is matured for 11 months in French oak, 22% new. Mid-ruby with bright red and dark cherry, wild strawberry and red plum fruits along with hints of medina spice, powdered schist, red apple skin, pomegranate, leaf litter and crushed rocks. Vibrant and purely fruited, there’s some light biscuity oak in there too, but it matches the fruit weight nicely, the tannins are fine and schisty, and there’s a vivid mineral aspect to the acidity. Drink to 2041.

A little whole bunch and around 20% new oak. Dark cherry, cocoa, thyme, a little rhubarb, boot polish, and dried flower perfume. Medium-bodied, quite plush, lots of plum and cherry, a spicy note with some orange peel bitterness, sooty tannin grip, with a choc-nut finish of good length. It’s a robust style, though it does deliver plenty of flavour. Good.

92+ points Gary Walsh for Wine Front

Softly sweet-fruited with gently rounded tannins which firm up towards the back-palate. The mid-weight flavours of macerated berry fruit sit front and centre so can be enjoyed now but are well balanced with good concentration, suggesting this will drink well as it evolves across the near-term. Drink to 2032.

Set against the dramatic landscapes of Central Otago, Peregrine has become one of New Zealand's leading champions of organic viticulture and cool climate Pinot Noir. Founded by the McLachlan family in the late 1990s, the estate takes its name from the endangered New Zealand falcon, the karearea or peregrine falcon, a symbol that reflects both the winery's environmental commitment and its soaring reputation among Pinot lovers.

The organically farmed vineyards stretch across some of Central Otago's finest subregions, where warm days, cool nights and schist rich soils create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. The excellent vintage delivered fruit with wonderful concentration and aromatic purity, while sensitive winemaking and careful oak maturation have allowed the regional character to shine through with clarity and precision.

Bright ruby red in colour, the bouquet is immediately inviting with aromas of wild cherry, raspberry and red plum layered with rose petal, thyme and sweet spice. As the wine opens, notes of forest floor, star anise and subtle earthy complexity emerge, adding intrigue and depth. The palate is silky and energetic, delivering vibrant red berry fruits framed by fine tannins and fresh acidity. There is an appealing savoury thread running through the wine, while the finish lingers with florals, spice and mineral detail.

This is a superb companion for duck breast, roast quail, grilled salmon, mushroom pithivier or truffle infused pasta. Approachable in its youth yet capable of rewarding medium term cellaring, it captures the purity, fragrance and effortless drinkability that make Central Otago Pinot Noir so admired around the world.
