Piccini Mario Primo Chianti DOCG Tuscany is a tribute wine from one of Chianti’s most enduring family estates. Founded in 1882 in Castellina in Chianti, the Piccini family have played a significant role in the evolution of Tuscan wine, growing from a small seven hectare holding into an internationally recognised producer while remaining proudly family owned. Mario Primo honours a key figure in the family’s history, reflecting both tradition and ambition. Crafted primarily from Sangiovese grown on the rolling hills of Chianti, where galestro and alberese soils meet warm Tuscan sunshine and cooling evening breezes, this wine captures the vibrancy and structure that define classic Chianti DOCG.
The colour is bright ruby with light garnet tones. Aromas are expressive and layered, showing sour cherry, red plum and wild berries intertwined with violet, dried oregano and a touch of sweet spice. A gentle earthy note and subtle hint of leather give it a distinctly Tuscan personality.
On the palate it is medium bodied and beautifully balanced, driven by lively acidity and fine, chalky tannins. Red cherry and cranberry fruit sit at the core, framed by savoury herbs and a touch of oak that adds roundness without masking freshness. The finish is dry and persistent with a characteristic cherry skin tang that makes it wonderfully food friendly.
Serve with pappardelle al ragù, grilled bistecca, eggplant parmigiana or aged pecorino with honey. It is ready to enjoy now for its bright fruit and energy, yet will comfortably cellar for five to eight years, developing further savoury nuance and softening tannin structure.
