Delicate single vineyard Pinot with savoury red fruit
A pretty pinot focusing on fruit rather than structure, taking varietal cues of red cherries, baking spices and a whiff of autumn leaves. Lighter framed, the palate alive with acidity and barely there tannins.
88 points Jane Faulkner for Halliday Wine Companion, May 2025
Portsea Estate was planted in 2000 to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Tempranillo on a low elevation site of humus rich topsoils over calcareous sands. The estate also draws fruit from a second site in Main Ridge at an elevation of 172 metres planted in stages from 1997 to 2022 to Chardonnay as well as Pinots Gris and Noir. The two sites are farmed to principles of regenerative viticulture and are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
All of the fruit for this wine was grown in the higher estate vineyard in Main Ridge. Fruit is picked on brightness, with the team wanting to present wines built on energy, fresh, pure fruit flavours and natural acidity.
From the cooler 2023 vintage, this delicate wine plays on savoury, ferrous and herbal characters amongst the red primary fruit. Ready to enjoy on release, enjoy this now for its refreshing character.
