The Pulenta Estate XIV Pinot Gris from Mendoza is a bright and elegant take on this aromatic variety, crafted with the precision and polish that the Pulenta family has become known for. Founded in 2002 by brothers Hugo and Eduardo Pulenta, the estate combines old-vine sites across Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley with a winemaking philosophy that values purity, balance and a strong sense of place. Though Mendoza is more famous for Malbec, its high-altitude vineyards provide the cool nights and long ripening season that suit aromatic whites like Pinot Gris beautifully.
The fruit for this wine comes from vineyards in the Uco Valley, where rocky alluvial soils and elevations over 1,000 metres above sea level bring freshness and minerality. Grapes are harvested in the early morning to preserve acidity, fermented in stainless steel to retain aromatics, and aged briefly on lees for added texture. The result is a wine that offers both freshness and a subtle roundness.
In the glass, it is pale straw with silver reflections. The bouquet is lifted and fragrant, showing pear, white peach and citrus blossom alongside hints of honeysuckle and wet stone. On the palate it is medium-bodied, crisp and balanced, with orchard fruit and zesty citrus framed by lively acidity. A gentle creaminess from lees ageing adds body, leading to a clean, mineral finish.
Food pairings are versatile: seared scallops, ceviche, grilled prawns, or vegetarian options like goat’s cheese salad, roasted zucchini or a simple lemon risotto. It also works beautifully as an aperitif. Best enjoyed young within 3 to 5 years, it offers both charm and energy.
