2023 Stefano Lubiana Primavera Chardonnay Biodynamic, Derwent Valley

Named after springtime, this wine is a bright and fresh expression of Chardonnay. This wine is a blend of Chardonnay from our Estate vineyards in Granton, Derwent Valley and Cradoc, Huon Valley. These two terroirs build a layered falvour profile, the richness coming from the Granton fruit meanhwile the brightness coming from the Cradoc fruit. All of the Chardonnay is matured in 100% oak with a portion of the juice filling 228L barriques and the other portion in seasoned 500L Austrian oak foudres.

They have been cultivating the vines under biodynamic conditions since 2010 Tasmania’s first and only which means that the wines are free of all synthetic treatments, additives and pesticides. Instead they travel the alternative path, stepping back in time and using cosmic rhythmsto ensure correct soil tilling and recuperation as well as effective vine care through all phases of the year’s seasonal cycles. Their innovative use of barrels, whole-bunch fermentation and wild yeasts, they handcraft a distinctive range of wines. With most of the 25ha estate planted to the two great Burgundian varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay it’s no secret that with meticulous vineyard craftsmanship and sympathetic and thoughtful winemaking, their wines have earned a reputation as some of most revered and desired in Australia.
