The Tenuta Ulisse Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOP is a vibrant and expressive red that showcases both the richness of the Montepulciano grape and the modern, dynamic style of this Abruzzo estate. Founded in 2006 by brothers Antonio and Luigi Ulisse, Tenuta Ulisse has quickly established itself as one of the region’s most exciting producers, marrying tradition with innovation to craft wines that are both authentic and contemporary. Their focus is on highlighting indigenous varieties through precise vineyard management and meticulous cellar practices.

The Montepulciano grapes for this wine are grown in vineyards spread across the rolling hills of Abruzzo, benefiting from a unique climate where the Adriatic Sea meets the Apennine Mountains. The soils of clay and limestone provide depth and structure, while warm days and cool nights help the grapes achieve excellent ripeness with balanced acidity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by maturation in a combination of stainless steel and oak, which brings both vibrancy and a touch of complexity.

In the glass it is deep ruby with purple highlights. Aromatically it bursts with ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum, accented by notes of violet, licorice and a hint of spice. The palate is plush and medium to full-bodied, delivering juicy dark fruits wrapped in velvety tannins and a refreshing line of acidity. The finish is long and balanced, with both fruit generosity and savoury nuance.

Food pairings reflect its versatile, crowd-pleasing style: hearty pasta dishes like spaghetti alla chitarra with ragù, wood-fired pizza topped with sausage and mushrooms, roasted lamb, or vegetarian dishes such as aubergine parmigiana or wild mushroom risotto. This wine is best enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit but will evolve gracefully for 5 to 7 years, gaining notes of leather and earth.
