Dense, glass staining black-purple colour; there are oaky and superripe fruit aromas, lots of dark chocolate, the palate very big and brawny, with massive tannin and prune and raisin flavours that lead to a very dry finish that lacks a little in freshness. What it lacks in elegance it makes up in sheer guts. 15 Jan 2026 Drink 2028–2038

From select old vine parcels across the Barossa Valley, Teusner Albert Shiraz is a richly expressive tribute to Albert Teusner, father of co founder Kym Teusner. The winery has built a loyal following for wines that celebrate Barossa heritage with a fresh, balanced approach, sourcing from some of the region’s most characterful vineyards. Albert sits at the heart of the range, showcasing the depth, generosity and spice that define Barossa Shiraz, while maintaining a sense of control and drinkability.

A deep inky crimson fills the glass with intensity. Aromas rise with blackberry, dark plum and blueberry layered with dark chocolate, liquorice, vanilla and warm baking spice. There is an immediate sense of plushness, rich yet inviting.

The palate is full bodied and generous, delivering waves of ripe black fruit framed by velvety tannins and balanced acidity. Notes of mocha, spice and subtle oak sweetness build through the mid palate, leading to a long, smooth finish that feels both powerful and polished. While irresistible in its youth for its richness, this Shiraz will continue to evolve over eight to twelve years, gaining savoury complexity and deeper structure.

Sticky pork ribs glazed and caramelised, slow cooked beef brisket falling apart at the touch, or smoky barbecue platters shared across a noisy table. A spin of AC DC Back in Black or something gritty from The Black Keys, the wine matching that same bold, unapologetic Barossa energy, loud, generous and impossible to ignore.
