From the historic vineyards of the Hunter Valley, Thomas Wines has become one of the region’s most respected producers of both Shiraz and Semillon. The winery was founded by Andrew Thomas in 1997 after working closely with Murray Tyrrell, one of the pioneers of modern Hunter Valley winemaking. Andrew set out to highlight the character of individual vineyard sites across the region, sourcing fruit from some of the Valley’s most established growers. Kiss Shiraz is named after the grower family who have farmed their Hunter Valley vineyard for generations, with the wine reflecting the softer, more elegant style of Shiraz that the region is known for.

The wine shows a bright crimson colour with ruby highlights. Aromas open with red plum, cherry and blackberry layered with gentle pepper spice, dried herbs and subtle floral notes. As the wine develops further hints of liquorice, earth and savoury spice appear, adding complexity. The palate is medium bodied and beautifully balanced with fine tannins supporting flavours of dark cherry, plum and spice across a smooth frame. Fresh acidity gives the wine lift and drinkability, leading to a long savoury finish that reflects the classic style of Hunter Valley Shiraz.

It will continue to develop nicely over the next eight to twelve years and suits roast lamb, grilled meats, duck dishes or slow cooked favourites.
