Sourced entirely from the '01-planted, very protected 0.4ha F Block. 100% mlf with no lees stirring. Subtle melon fig and stone aromas together with a little chalk and spice. This is very even on the finely tuned, pure-fruited, structured and graceful palate. Finishes grapefruit pithy and long. A terrific chardonnay site that has delivered in spades in both '23 and the '24 to follow. Hats off!

The Toolangi F Block Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley is one of the estate’s finest single-site expressions, highlighting both the pedigree of the vineyard and the precision of cool-climate winemaking. Toolangi’s home vineyard at Dixons Creek was planted in 1995, with F Block sitting on gravelly clay loam soils that provide a natural balance between concentration and finesse. Today, under the guidance of Oakridge’s senior winemaker Sarah Crowe, Toolangi’s single-block wines have become a showcase of restrained, site-driven Yarra Valley Chardonnay.

In the glass the F Block Chardonnay is pale straw with a green tinge. The bouquet is complex and refined, showing aromas of white peach, nectarine and Meyer lemon, layered with almond meal, flint and a whisper of struck match. On the palate, it is taut and finely textured, with flavours of stone fruit, citrus and grapefruit zest framed by subtle oak spice and a chalky mineral edge. Bright acidity drives a long, focused finish, giving this wine a Burgundian poise that speaks strongly of place.

Food pairings work best with dishes that highlight freshness and texture. Think roast chicken with lemon and thyme, grilled whiting, lobster rolls, or even creamy polenta with wild mushrooms. The precision and energy of the wine also allow it to pair beautifully with soft-ripened cheeses. With 8 to 12 years of cellaring potential, it will evolve into a more complex wine, gaining nutty, honeyed depth while retaining its mineral drive.
