Lively old vine Semillon showing citrus and sweet pastries
The 2023 Woodcutter's Semillon is grassy and fine on the nose—herbaceous and pretty but textural and grippy in its way—with green apple, lychee, hay, straw, cut grass, lemongrass, lime brûlée and chalk. This is really good; it's kind of enveloping on the mid-palate. Good! Fine. Drink to 2038.

Founded in the 1990s by David Powell, Torbreck has always focused on old vine Barossa fruit and respectful, traditional winemaking. Today Chief Winemaker Ian Hongell continues that philosophy, working closely with growers across the region. While Barossa is famous for Shiraz, it also holds historic Semillon plantings that can deliver brightness and subtle texture when handled with restraint.
The fruit for the 2023 Woodcutter’s Semillon was sourced from old-vine vineyards in Rowland Flat and Ebenezer. The grapes were hand-harvested over several days, with fermentation occurring in a combination of stainless steel and seasoned French oak. After three months of maturation, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Pale in colour, the wine opens with lifted citrus fruit and light notes of sweet pastries. The lively, textural palate is medium-bodied with a long, fresh finish
Pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, and lighter white meat dishes. Best enjoyed while youthful and vibrant, it will hold comfortably for several years in the cellar.
