A harmonious, black-cherry-rich shiraz sourced from the Barossan parishes of Marananga, Greenock, Seppeltsfield, Gomersal, Moppa, Lyndoch and Ebenezer. Satsuma plum, the aforementioned cherries, five-spice, bay leaf, licorice, biltong, citrus blossom and earth. I love the pure, savoury fruit core here, like a tube of black cherry and spice, travelling straight and true with fine tannin support and boundless energy. Great drinking.

Founded in 1994 by David Powell, Torbreck has established itself as a leading producer of premium Australian Shiraz. Woodcutters Shiraz is named in homage to Powell’s early days working as a woodcutter in the Barossa, a job that inspired his connection to the land and its vines. The wine is crafted to be an accessible yet powerful expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz, embodying Torbreck’s commitment to quality and tradition.
This wine reflects the up & coming Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle hardened old vines which make up the core of Torbreck's other cuvee’s.
But like all Torbreck wines, Woodcutter’s Shiraz receives the very best viticultural and winemaking treatment. Fruit is sourced from hand-harvested and hand-tended, low-yielding vines, then open fermented and gently basket pressed before ageing on fine lees for 12 months in large format seasoned barrels and foudres.
Full of deep, dark berry fruit, the wine is sensational array of opulent rich fruit with a wonderful freshness and balance. A dark deep, central core of fruit gives way to an intense textural mid palate full of mocha, plum, spice and dark chocolate. Whilst offering immense pleasure in its youth the Woodcutter’s Shiraz will certainly develop into an impressive wine with a few years in the cellar.
