Tornatore is one of the oldest winegrowing families on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, with roots in the region dating back to 1865. Today, Giuseppe Tornatore continues the legacy, farming estate vineyards between 550 and 700 metres above sea level in the Castiglione di Sicilia area. These high-altitude sites sit on mineral-rich volcanic soils formed by centuries of lava flow, which, combined with the cooling influence of the mountains and the Ionian Sea, produce wines of striking freshness, minerality, and aromatic lift. Tornatore farms sustainably, aiming to reflect the purity of Etna’s terroir in every bottle.
The Tornatore Etna Bianco DOC is crafted predominantly from Carricante, Etna’s most noble white grape, with a small proportion of other indigenous varieties adding nuance. In the glass, it shines pale straw with green reflections, releasing aromas of lemon zest, green apple, and white peach, layered with hints of jasmine, crushed stone, and a saline edge. The palate is taut and vibrant, driven by citrus and orchard fruit flavours underscored by a distinctive volcanic minerality. Bright acidity gives energy and length, while a subtle textural creaminess from lees ageing adds balance and complexity.
This wine is a natural partner for Sicilian seafood dishes such as grilled swordfish with capers, spaghetti alle vongole, or prawns with lemon and olive oil. It also pairs beautifully with fresh goat cheese, fennel salad, or lightly grilled vegetables. Best enjoyed within five to six years of release, it will gain savoury, nutty complexity with time in the bottle.
