My, my, this is wonderfully expressive and, as it rightly should be, highly aromatic. Perfumed with Mr Lincoln roses, dark cherries and plums dusted in pepper and baking spices. It’s fuller-bodied but restrained, there’s a succulence, a freshness and vitality with textural, shapely tannins, fine acidity and a lingering finish. The flavours build; it’s savoury, too. There’s plenty going on, but it feels effortless. It’s an outstanding example of the variety in this region.

Voyager Estate Syrah from Margaret River is a beautifully detailed, cool-climate expression of the variety that leans into finesse and spice over sheer power. Sourced from the estate’s certified organic vineyards in Stevens Valley, this Syrah is a nod to the Rhône more than the Barossa, offering fragrant aromatics, fine tannins and a savoury, elegant core.
The vineyard’s gravelly soils and maritime influence shape a Syrah of precision and energy. Hand harvested and gently fermented with a portion of whole bunches, the wine is aged in seasoned French oak puncheons to enhance structure while preserving fruit purity. Winemaker Tim Shand focuses on light extraction and minimal intervention, allowing the character of the fruit and site to shine.
On the nose, it shows lifted aromas of wild berries, cracked pepper, violets, cured meats and olive tapenade. The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with dark cherry, plum and black pepper layered over graphite and spice. There’s a savoury thread throughout, supported by bright acidity and beautifully integrated tannins that give length and focus.
Pair with duck breast and cherry jus, spiced lamb koftas, mushroom and lentil pie or a truffled pecorino. It’s a Syrah that drinks well now for its aromatic vibrancy but will reward cellaring for 6 to 10 years with added complexity and depth.
