This was crafted from a small plot of vines over half a century old. A chardonnay of distinction, offering remarkable depth and intensity that reflects its old-vine pedigree. It is compelling for its concentration and rounded, unctuous nature, while also retaining freshness from a defined core of acidity. The mid-palate bursts with sweet fruit, including ripe lemon, golden delicious apple and poached pear, complemented by nuances of quality French oak. Long, layered and utterly delicious, with a sumptuous character that keeps you coming back for more.

The Winmark Icon 72 Chardonnay from the Hunter Valley is a sophisticated and finely crafted white that reflects both the region’s long history with Chardonnay and Winmark’s dedication to producing premium, site-expressive wines. Winmark, set in the picturesque Broke Fordwich subregion, is an estate deeply tied to art, architecture and viticulture, with Chardonnay as its true focus. The Icon 72 is the flagship of the range, made from select parcels of fruit that capture intensity, texture and elegance in equal measure.

In the glass it is pale straw with golden highlights. The bouquet is complex and enticing, with aromas of white peach, nectarine and citrus blossom interwoven with notes of cashew, nougat, flint and subtle toasty oak. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with layers of stone fruit and lemon curd supported by bright acidity and a fine chalky texture. Savoury oak provides depth and spice, while the finish is long, focused and beautifully balanced, showcasing both richness and restraint.

Food pairings highlight its elegance and layered character: grilled lobster with lemon butter, roast chicken with tarragon, seared scallops, or creamy mushroom pasta. It also pairs beautifully with soft-ripened cheeses. With 8 to 12 years of cellaring potential, it will develop honeyed, nutty and toasty notes while maintaining freshness and drive.
