This is 50/50% pinot (whole-berry ferment) and shiraz (100% whole bunches) blended prior to bottling. A vibrant crimson/purple. Smells scrumptious! Aromas of red and black fruits, musk, white and black pepper. Floral too. Medium bodied, beautifully balanced and just as delicious on the palate as the bouquet informed me it would be. Drink now and over the next four to five years.

Yarra Yering Light Dry Red Pinot Noir Shiraz is a nod to an old Australian tradition with a distinctly modern, Yarra Valley edge. This unexpected blend, drawing together the perfume and finesse of Pinot Noir with the spice and savoury backbone of Shiraz, is crafted with a deft touch by winemaker Sarah Crowe, one of the country’s most celebrated talents.
The fruit is sourced from the estate’s original vineyards, planted in 1969 at the foot of the Warramate Hills. These ancient, gravelly soils and cool-climate conditions offer a perfect balance of ripeness and structure. Fermentation is handled gently, with some whole bunch inclusion and ageing in seasoned oak to maintain freshness and texture.
On the nose, it opens with wild strawberry, raspberry, and red cherry from the Pinot, layered with a touch of black pepper, dried herbs and charcuterie from the Shiraz. The palate is light to medium bodied, silky and savoury, with fine tannins and a dry, bright finish that keeps pulling you back for another sip. It’s wonderfully versatile and food-friendly, offering both vibrancy and complexity.
Pair it with chargrilled salmon, duck pancakes, mushroom tarts or even a chilled charcuterie board. Drink now for brightness and charm or cellar up to 8 years for savoury depth.
