Hazelnut and lemon oil add savoury richness through the middle before a long finish of salted almond, citrus peel and cool stone.
The 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is a blend of seven lieux-dits with one-third from Morgeots, all touching Grand Crus. It has a touch of oyster shell on the nose that combines deftly with the citrus fruit. Fine delineation and focus. The palate is well balanced with a killer line of acidity, impressive depth and intensity, lightly spiced with a powerful and long finish that is unequivocally Premier Cru in standard. You will find few white Village Crus better than this.
91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
Brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet have turned their small family domaine in Dezize-lès-Maranges into one of the Côte de Beaune’s hottest addresses. Their whites have a particularly loyal following, combining concentration with restraint and a wonderful ability to let each village show its own character. Chassagne-Montrachet brings a slightly broader, more savoury personality than neighbouring Puligny, with plenty of mineral tension underneath the flesh.
The 2024 vintage was painfully small, with cool, wet conditions demanding constant attention in the vineyard. The reward for meticulous growers was fruit with excellent freshness and aromatic definition. Chassagne’s complex clay-limestone soils bring texture and depth, while the Bachelets’ thoughtful élevage builds shape without overwhelming the fruit. There’s richness here, but it remains beautifully energetic.
Pale gold with green highlights, the nose opens with yellow peach, lemon curd and ripe pear before honeysuckle, grapefruit and roasted almond emerge. With air come hints of flint, crushed stone and warm brioche. The palate is generous and silky, with ripe stone fruit and citrus balanced by bright acidity. Hazelnut and lemon oil add savoury richness through the middle before a long finish of salted almond, citrus peel and cool stone.
Give this char siu glazed toothfish, grilled lobster with ginger butter, chicken satay with a restrained peanut sauce, scallops with sweetcorn and miso or roast cauliflower with tahini and almonds. Our pick is the toothfish its buttery flesh and sweet-savoury glaze against Chassagne’s citrus, nuts and mineral bite could be outrageously good.
Cellaring: Drink from 2027 to 2039.
