The 2024 Meursault Clos du Cromin has a Zen-like minimalist bouquet that is more Puligny in style, very nuanced and demands patience as you wait for it to open. The palate is linear and strict, very malic, never really building, staying controlled to the point where, like the 2023, I just find myself waiting for the final song that is never sung. A very competent Meursault that maybe has something up its sleeve for later.

89-91 points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet have taken their family domaine in Dezize-lès-Maranges from quiet insider favourite to one of the Côte de Beaune’s most sought-after addresses. Their whites are particularly compelling, combining concentration with a beautifully restrained hand in the cellar. Clos du Cromin lies on the northern side of Meursault, close to the Volnay boundary, and gives a wonderfully poised expression of the village — generous enough to be unmistakably Meursault, but with freshness and mineral definition keeping everything in line.

The 2024 vintage was a difficult, low-yielding year, with cool, wet conditions demanding relentless work in the vineyards. For growers as meticulous as the Bachelets, the small crop brought excellent aromatic clarity and freshness. Clos du Cromin’s clay-limestone soils give the wine texture and breadth, while careful élevage adds complexity without burying the fruit under a duvet of oak.

Pale gold with green highlights, the nose opens with white peach, ripe pear and preserved lemon before hazelnut, acacia and citrus oil emerge. With air come toasted almond, struck flint, wet stone and a little warm brioche. The palate is supple and beautifully textured, with stone fruit and citrus flowing through a creamy middle. Bright acidity keeps the richness moving before a long finish of lemon oil, roasted nuts and a gently saline mineral note.

Give this miso-glazed salmon, grilled marron with garlic butter, scallops with cauliflower and hazelnut, Korean fried chicken or roast cauliflower with tahini and preserved lemon. .

Cellaring: Drink from 2027 to 2038.
