Castagna Allegro Rosé from Beechworth is an elegant, biodynamic rosé that perfectly reflects the finesse and individuality of Julian Castagna’s winemaking. Crafted from estate-grown fruit on the family’s granite-rich vineyards high in the foothills of the Australian Alps, Allegro is inspired by the pale, savoury rosés of Provence but carries the unmistakable intensity and minerality of Beechworth’s cool climate terroir.
Julian Castagna is one of Australia’s great artisanal winemakers, known for his focus on biodynamic viticulture and his philosophy of letting nature guide the process. The Allegro Rosé is made predominantly from Shiraz with a touch of Sangiovese, both hand harvested and pressed gently to capture delicate colour and pure fruit flavour. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, followed by maturation in old oak and stainless steel to preserve freshness while adding subtle texture and depth.
In the glass it glows a pale salmon pink. The aroma is bright and enticing, offering wild strawberry, pink grapefruit and rose petal with hints of spice, citrus zest and crushed stone. On the palate it is dry, vibrant and textural, showing red berry and citrus flavours balanced by crisp acidity and a savoury, mineral finish. It’s refined yet full of character — a rosé that’s as thoughtful as it is delicious.
Castagna Allegro Rosé pairs beautifully with Mediterranean dishes such as grilled seafood, antipasto, roast chicken with herbs, or Niçoise salad. It also works beautifully with creamy cheeses or light pasta. Best enjoyed within three to four years of release, it will gain subtle savoury nuances with short-term cellaring.
