2024 Castellare Chianti Classico delivers vibrant cherry fruit, savoury Tuscan character and exceptional value with fine balance.
Castellare di Castellina has been one of Chianti Classico's benchmark estates since its formation in 1977, bringing together some of the finest vineyard holdings in the commune of Castellina. The winery quickly earned acclaim for its commitment to indigenous Tuscan varieties and traditional winemaking, producing wines that capture the authenticity and character of the region. Today, Castellare remains one of Tuscany's most respected names, celebrated for wines that combine elegance, purity and exceptional consistency.
The 2024 Chianti Classico DOCG is sourced from hillside vineyards planted on the galestro and limestone soils that have made Castellina one of the appellation's most prized areas. Sangiovese takes centre stage, supported by small amounts of native varieties that add complexity and texture. The warm days and cool nights of the growing season allowed the fruit to ripen slowly, preserving freshness while developing excellent flavour intensity.
Bright ruby red in colour, the nose opens with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and plum, layered with notes of violet, dried herbs and a touch of sweet spice. The palate is vibrant and beautifully balanced, offering juicy red berry fruits, sour cherry and subtle earthy nuances. Fine tannins provide structure without heaviness, while lively acidity gives the wine energy and makes it wonderfully food friendly. The finish is long, savoury and classically Tuscan, with lingering notes of cherry, spice and herbs.
This is a natural match for pappardelle with beef ragù, wood fired pizza, rosemary roasted pork, grilled lamb cutlets, eggplant parmigiana or a hearty mushroom risotto. Approachable in its youth yet capable of rewarding short term cellaring, it captures everything that has made Chianti Classico one of Italy's great food wines.
