This has a perfumed and expressive nose with juicy blackcurrants and berry fruit. Fine-grained, integrated tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Good length. A solid one for the vintage.

Ruby red, medium intensity, grilled sandalwood and red liquorice, pocket of air running under these slim red fruits, limestone signature, with a lovely salty twist on the finish, and this is enjoyable, if a lighter styled Pressac. 40ha, Jean-François Quenin owner. First year of massal selection for Cabernet Franc, 8% amphora ageing, and 20% whole bunch fermentation on Merlot and Franc, 38hl/h yield (but with 25% going into a 3rd wine, so overall a very tight selection).

2024 Bordeaux En Primeur – A Classic Vintage for the Patient Collector

The 2024 Bordeaux en primeur campaign marks a return to classicism. After a string of warmer, more opulent vintages, 2024 delivers wines with freshness, structure and restrained elegance. This is a vintage defined by timing and terroir — those who picked at the right moment and worked carefully in the vineyard have crafted wines of beautiful balance and ageability.

Expect Cabernet-led wines on the Left Bank with tension, clarity and fine tannins, especially from the best gravel soils of Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Saint-Estèphe. The Right Bank is more varied, but top estates on limestone-rich sites in Saint-Émilion and select plots in Pomerol have produced refined, aromatic Merlot and structured blends with excellent poise.

This is not a blockbuster year, but rather one for collectors who value precision over power. Alcohols are moderate, acidities are vibrant, and the best wines will reward careful cellaring. Dry whites from Pessac-Léognan and Graves are among the strongest in recent memory, while Sauternes offers small but high-quality releases.

With competitive pricing expected and strong quality from many classified growths and value châteaux alike, the 2024 Bordeaux vintage presents an exciting opportunity for both seasoned buyers and first-time en primeur investors.
