The 2024 Rosé Les Deux Anges is savory and complex, delivering an array of thyme, sage, rosemary and white pepper on the peachy nose. Scintillating acidity tingles on the tongue, but the 2024 keeps it between the lines, maintaining balance all the way through the long, slightly tense finish. Well executed, and a notable step up from the 2023 tasted last year.
90 points Vinous
Set inland from the Mediterranean in the cooler hills of Provence, Château l’Escarelle works organically across a broad, elevated estate where altitude helps preserve freshness in what can otherwise be a warm region. Les Deux Anges is their bright, expressive rosé, built in that classic Provençal mould but with a little extra lift from the site.
A blend led by Grenache with Cinsault and Syrah, it opens with delicate aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and white peach, alongside a gentle citrus note, think pink grapefruit and a squeeze of lemon. There is a subtle floral lift and a faint herbal edge that adds a bit of complexity without taking away from the wine’s easy charm.
The palate is crisp and refreshing, light to medium in body with a clean line of acidity. Red berry fruit carries through with a soft, dry finish, and there is just a hint of minerality that gives it a little extra definition. It is all about balance and drinkability, nothing heavy, everything in place.
Winemaking is geared toward preserving that pale, fresh style, cool fermentation in stainless steel and minimal handling to keep the aromatics bright and the palate clean.
This is made for relaxed, sunny food. Think grilled prawns, niçoise salad, or a simple plate of charcuterie. It also works beautifully with Mediterranean vegetables, olive oil and herbs doing most of the talking.
Picture a long table outdoors, late afternoon light, something easy going playing in the background, a bit of French pop or soft acoustic, and this poured well chilled, doing exactly what a Provence rosé should.
