Dalwood Estate Semillon from the Hunter Valley is a classic expression of one of Australia’s most distinctive white wine styles — crisp, pure and beautifully age worthy. Dalwood is part of the Hungerford Hill portfolio, and under the guidance of winemaker Bryan Currie, the estate continues its long legacy of producing elegant wines that reflect both heritage and modern craftsmanship. With vineyard origins dating back to 1828 on the banks of the Hunter River, Dalwood holds an important place in Australian wine history, and its Semillon is a true reflection of that legacy.

The grapes are sourced from mature vines planted on the sandy loam and alluvial soils of the Hunter River flats. These soils, along with the region’s warm days, cool nights and maritime breezes, create ideal conditions for producing Semillon with vibrancy, intensity and natural balance. The fruit is picked early to preserve acidity and delicacy, gently pressed, and cold fermented in stainless steel to capture the pure varietal character without any oak influence. The result is a wine that is restrained and refreshing when young, with the potential to evolve into something more complex and honeyed over time.

In the glass it shows pale straw with green tinges. The aroma is bright and fresh, offering lemon zest, lime, green apple and hints of cut grass and white florals. On the palate it is light bodied yet intensely flavoured, with crisp citrus and subtle herbal notes supported by fine acidity and a clean, mineral finish. It has that hallmark Hunter Valley combination of brightness and understated depth, promising graceful development in bottle.

Dalwood Estate Semillon pairs beautifully with oysters, grilled prawns, fish and chips, or salads featuring citrus and herbs. It also complements goat cheese and light vegetarian dishes. Enjoy it young for its zesty freshness or cellar for 8 to 10 years, when it will develop complex notes of toast, honey and lanolin while maintaining its vibrant line of acidity.
