Domaine Collotte Marsannay Vieilles Vignes Cote de Nuits is a beautifully structured old vine Pinot Noir from the northern edge of Burgundy’s famed Côte de Nuits. Domaine Collotte, led by Philippe Collotte in Marsannay, has been in the family since the late nineteenth century and is known for meticulous vineyard work and an honest, terroir focused style. The Vieilles Vignes cuvée is sourced from older Pinot Noir vines planted on limestone and clay soils, where naturally lower yields deliver greater concentration and depth. Marsannay has steadily gained recognition for producing serious, cellar worthy Burgundy that still offers value, and Collotte is one of the village’s most consistent champions.
The wine shows a bright ruby colour with subtle garnet hues. Aromas are layered and expressive, revealing red cherry, blackberry and wild strawberry intertwined with violet, gentle spice and a savoury earthy note. There is a distinct mineral lift that reflects the limestone soils typical of this part of the Côte de Nuits.
On the palate it is medium to full bodied with impressive structure and energy. Dark and red berry fruit sit at the core, framed by fine yet firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Subtle oak adds texture and depth without overshadowing the purity of fruit. The finish is long, savoury and persistent, with lingering hints of spice, earth and graphite that highlight its old vine character.
Pair with roast duck, herb crusted lamb, beef bourguignon or mushroom dishes with thyme and garlic. While expressive now with a careful decant, it will reward cellaring for ten to fifteen years, gaining further complexity, silky texture and tertiary nuance.
