Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé is a benchmark wine not just for Provence, but for the entire category of serious, age-worthy rosé. Made predominantly from Mourvèdre with supporting roles from Grenache and Cinsault, this is a rosé of depth, texture and savoury complexity that reflects both its sun-drenched Mediterranean setting and the traditional winemaking approach that Domaine Tempier has upheld for generations.
The grapes are grown on terraced limestone slopes overlooking the sea, hand harvested and fermented with wild yeasts. A portion of the juice sees short skin contact and fermentation in both stainless steel and concrete, followed by time on lees to enhance mouthfeel and structure. This is not a light, forgettable pink — it is layered, mineral and quietly powerful.
Aromatically, it opens with wild strawberry, white peach, citrus peel, herbs de Provence and a touch of rosehip. The palate is dry and expansive, offering flavours of blood orange, melon, salty stone, and crushed herbs. There’s weight and grip here, balanced by fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish that lingers with notes of anise and saline lift.
Food pairing: brilliant with grilled octopus, bouillabaisse, Provençal chicken with olives and lemon, or niçoise salad. Also pairs beautifully with charcuterie, tapenade or aged goat cheese.
Cellar potential: unlike most rosé, this wine improves with age. While delicious young, it will evolve over 3 to 5 years, gaining texture, spice and a more vinous character.
