Emmalene Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills is a refined, cool climate white that captures the elegance and energy that define this acclaimed region. Crafted with precision and restraint, it reflects the purity of fruit grown in the high-altitude vineyards of the Hills, where cool nights and gentle sunshine create Chardonnay with freshness, texture and fine acidity. The Emmalene style is all about balance — expressive yet subtle, sophisticated yet approachable.
The grapes are hand picked from select sites planted on sandy loam and clay soils, chosen for their natural mineral expression and excellent drainage. After gentle whole bunch pressing, the juice is wild fermented in French oak barriques, a small portion of which are new. Lees stirring during maturation builds texture and mouthfeel, while partial malolactic fermentation adds a touch of creaminess without compromising the wine’s crisp drive. The result is a Chardonnay that feels seamless, vibrant and beautifully detailed.
In the glass it glows pale gold with a hint of green. The aroma opens with white peach, nectarine and lemon zest layered with subtle notes of hazelnut, brioche and wet stone. On the palate it is elegant and finely textured, showing ripe stone fruit, citrus and cashew framed by lively acidity and a long, mineral finish. The oak influence is subtle and beautifully integrated, giving structure without weight.
Emmalene Chardonnay pairs perfectly with roast chicken, grilled whiting, seared scallops or creamy pasta with herbs. It also works beautifully with soft cheeses or dishes featuring fresh seafood and citrus. Delicious now for its brightness and balance, it will evolve gracefully over five to eight years, gaining layers of complexity and richness with time.
