Some Burgundy vineyards are so highly regarded that their reputation helped give an entire village its name. Les Saint Georges is one of them, the celebrated Premier Cru that inspired Nuits to become Nuits Saint Georges in 1892. Domaine Faiveley has been producing fine Burgundy since 1825, and today seventh generation siblings Erwan and Eve Faiveley continue the family's remarkable legacy. Winemaker Jérôme Flous oversees the domaine's wines, combining traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with a thoughtful, contemporary approach.
Situated on the southern side of Nuits Saint Georges, Les Saint Georges is widely regarded as one of the Côte de Nuits' greatest Premier Cru vineyards, with a long history of being considered worthy of Grand Cru status. Its limestone and clay soils produce Pinot Noir with remarkable depth, structure and ageing potential. The difficult 2024 growing season demanded exceptional care in the vineyards, rewarding meticulous growers with wines of freshness, aromatic detail and finesse.
Deep ruby red with brilliant garnet reflections. Black cherry, ripe raspberry and dark plum mingle with violet, rose petals, liquorice and a suggestion of earthy spice. The palate is concentrated yet beautifully controlled, with vibrant dark fruit, finely grained tannins and a firm mineral backbone. Notes of black tea, crushed stone and subtle oak spice contribute to a long, complex finish that promises even greater character with age.
A magnificent choice for roast duck with blackberries and juniper, venison with beetroot and thyme, or handmade agnolotti filled with wild mushrooms and chestnuts. Its savoury depth would also complement miso roasted eggplant with black garlic and sesame.
Cellaring: 2030 to 2045+. A serious, ageworthy Premier Cru that deserves patience. Expect its youthful structure to soften and develop wonderful earthy, floral and savoury complexity over time.
