Barrel fermented and matured in neutral French puncheons. A very bright green gold. An aromatic wine that leaps from the glass with its bouquet of ripe yellow apple, lime zest and white pepper. The palate equally energetic and zesty. In a word, yum.
93 points Special Value Philip Rich Halliday Wine Companion July 2025
Elegantly complex and fragrant, the wine exhibits aromas of apricot, orange peel, Asian pear, oatmeal, and subtle spice on the nose. The palate delivers excellent weight and saline texture, splendidly supported by bright acidity, making it refined and flavoursome with a lengthy, structured finish.

A slightly left of centre variety for Victoria, but in the right hands Albariño can absolutely shine, and Chris Lawrence shows a real feel for it here. Under the Fetherston label, the Magnolia release draws fruit from the King Valley, where elevation and a cooler alpine influence help retain freshness while allowing full flavour development. It is a style that leans into vibrancy and texture rather than simple fruitiness.
The 2024 vintage is bright and expressive. Aromatics open with citrus, lime and lemon peel, layered with white nectarine and a subtle hint of green apple. There is a distinctive saline edge, along with a faint floral lift and a touch of fresh herbs that gives the wine its personality.
On the palate it is lively and refreshing, driven by crisp acidity that keeps everything tight and focused. Flavours move from citrus into a lightly stone fruit character, finishing dry with that signature Albariño saltiness and a gentle mineral snap. It feels clean, energetic and very moreish.
Winemaking is handled with a light touch, preserving aromatics and building texture without overt oak influence. The result is a wine that feels pure and well balanced, showing both varietal character and a clear sense of place.
This is made for seafood. Fresh oysters, grilled prawns, or a simple plate of calamari all work beautifully. It also pairs effortlessly with Spanish inspired dishes, paella, tapas, or anything with a bit of garlic and olive oil.
Best enjoyed young while its freshness and lift are at their peak, offering a vibrant and slightly different take on Australian whites.
