Citrus peach flint and chalky minerality in an elegant Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc.
It is round, with oodles of substance and makes for a gourmand wine. The fruit is rich with pear, lemon peel, elderflower, and a touch of herbaceousness. This is harmonious and well concentrated, with finely balanced acidity and an appealing chalkiness on the flavorsome, honeyed finish. Considering the challenging vintage, this is an absolute triumph. Crochet has had to sacrifice many top sites for this blend. Was it worth it? I think so.

François Crochet is regarded as one of the Loire Valley's finest vignerons, producing Sancerre that beautifully reflects the region's remarkable diversity of soils and vineyard sites. Based in the village of Bué, the family estate has been handed down through generations, with François combining traditional methods and meticulous vineyard work to craft wines of purity, precision and exceptional ageing potential. His Sancerre is a benchmark expression of Sauvignon Blanc, balancing vibrant fruit with the mineral complexity that has made the appellation famous.
The fruit is sourced from a mosaic of limestone, clay and flint soils surrounding Bué, each contributing its own character to the final blend. The excellent 2024 vintage delivered fruit of outstanding freshness and aromatic intensity, while careful handling in the winery preserved the clarity and elegance of the vineyard. The result is a beautifully composed Sancerre that speaks confidently of its Loire Valley origins.
The colour is a brilliant pale straw with green highlights. Aromas of grapefruit, lime zest and white peach are complemented by elderflower, fresh herbs and delicate smoky flint. The palate is vibrant yet finely textured, with pristine citrus and stone fruit framed by chalky minerality and lively natural acidity. Layers of lemon curd, crushed oyster shell and subtle wet stone unfold through a long, refined finish that is both refreshing and wonderfully persistent.
An outstanding match for freshly shucked oysters, grilled prawns, pan seared scallops, goat's cheese, sushi or asparagus with beurre blanc. Enjoy in its vibrant youth or cellar for eight to twelve years as greater complexity and savoury nuance develop.
