Frankland Estate is a family-run winery founded in 1988 by Judi Cullam and Barrie Smith, pioneers in recognising Frankland River’s potential for premium, cool-climate wine. Today, their children Hunter Smith and Elizabeth Smith are leading the next generation with a strong focus on organics, biodiversity, and minimal intervention.

The Riesling fruit comes from estate-grown vineyards planted on ironstone gravel over loam and clay. These soils, combined with the region’s wide diurnal range and cooling breezes from the Southern Ocean, allow for slow, even ripening—perfect for preserving acidity, building flavour, and retaining the crystalline precision that defines great Riesling.

Winemaking is all about purity. The grapes are hand harvested, gently pressed, and fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. There is no oak, no fluff—just a laser-focused expression of fruit, site, and season.

In the glass, the wine bursts with lime blossom, green apple, talc, and wet slate aromas. The palate is dry, racy, and mineral driven, with citrus and stone fruit intensity, taut acidity, and a clean, lingering finish that echoes with saline energy. It’s incredibly age worthy but also delicious in its youth.
