The 2024 Barbera d'Alba is a classy, polished wine. Silky and aromatic, with a gorgeous core of vibrant fruit, the 2024 is a showy Barbera that offers tons of immediacy. A closing burst of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal and mint rounds out the finish. The Barbera was done entirely in tank and cement.

Fratelli Alessandria Barbera d’Alba is a charming and expressive red wine from the heart of Piedmont, Italy. Crafted by the historic Fratelli Alessandria estate, which has been family-run since the early 19th century, this wine showcases the vibrancy and depth of the Barbera grape while reflecting the unique terroirs of the Alba region. Known for its tradition of excellence, Fratelli Alessandria is celebrated for producing wines that blend modern precision with a respect for Piedmontese heritage.

The Barbera grapes are sourced from estate vineyards in Verduno, where the region’s calcareous clay soils and temperate climate allow for the development of rich fruit flavors and refreshing acidity. These conditions, coupled with meticulous vineyard management, create the ideal foundation for crafting wines of balance and character.

The winemaking process is focused on enhancing the natural qualities of the Barbera grape. After careful hand-harvesting, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel to preserve their bright fruit character. The wine is then aged in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak barrels, a method that softens the tannins while maintaining the wine’s vibrancy and freshness.

In the glass, Fratelli Alessandria Barbera d’Alba reveals a deep ruby color. The nose is inviting, with aromas of red cherries, blackberries, and plums, intertwined with hints of violets, spices, and a touch of earthiness. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and juicy, with bright acidity that balances the ripe fruit flavors and fine, silky tannins. The finish is long and refreshing, making it a versatile companion for a variety of dishes.

This Barbera pairs beautifully with classic Italian fare such as pasta with tomato-based sauces, mushroom risotto, or grilled sausages. It also complements hard cheeses like Pecorino or Parmigiano-Reggiano.
