John Duval Plexus Marsanne Roussanne Viognier from the Barossa Valley is a beautifully crafted white blend that reflects both Rhône tradition and Australian individuality. John Duval, the former chief winemaker at Penfolds and custodian of Grange for nearly three decades, brings his signature precision and depth to this wine. Plexus represents the coming together of three Rhône varieties, each contributing its own personality — Marsanne for structure, Roussanne for texture, and Viognier for perfume and richness.

The fruit is sourced from low-yielding Barossa vineyards, some of which are over fifty years old, grown on sandy loam and red clay soils that lend minerality and depth. Grapes are hand picked and gently pressed, with fermentation taking place in a mix of stainless steel and seasoned French oak barrels. A short period on lees enhances the wine’s complexity and mouthfeel without sacrificing vibrancy.

In the glass it shows pale gold with green reflections. The aroma is enticing and layered, showing white peach, apricot, pear, and honeysuckle, complemented by hints of almond and spice. The palate is medium bodied and textural, offering stone fruit, citrus, and floral notes framed by fine acidity and a clean mineral finish. There’s both richness and restraint here a hallmark of John Duval’s elegant style.

It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, scallops, or seafood pasta, and also works well with lightly spiced Asian dishes. While fresh and expressive now, it will develop greater complexity over the next eight years, gaining subtle nutty and honeyed tones.
