2024 Kris Pinot Grigio DOC, Alto Adige

Kris Pinot Grigio DOC from Alto Adige is a bright, refreshing and delightfully expressive white wine shaped by dramatic Alpine influences. The vineyards sit high in the foothills of the Dolomites, where warm days and crisp mountain evenings give the grapes intense aromatics and vibrant natural acidity. Limestone, gravel and glacial moraine soils contribute clarity and minerality, helping Kris produce a Pinot Grigio that feels both energetic and finely textured. The cool climate of Alto Adige is key here, lifting perfume and sharpening detail.

Winemaking is intentionally clean and minimal. Grapes are harvested early in the morning to protect aromatic delicacy. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at cool temperatures, preserving freshness and purity of fruit. Lees contact adds a subtle creamy nuance, though the wine remains crisp and precise. Kris has developed a strong reputation internationally for delivering excellent value while conveying genuine regional character.

Aromatically the wine is immediately appealing, showing ripe pear, white peach and lemon zest with hints of apple blossom, honeysuckle and a whisper of Alpine herbs. As it opens, more subtle notes appear: green apple, lime leaf and soft spice backed by a gentle stony mineral edge that reflects its mountainous origins.

The palate is refreshing and sleek, offering flavours of pear, citrus, nectarine and crunchy apple framed by lively acidity. There is a lovely sense of purity, with a fine mineral line running through the wine from start to finish. The texture is supple, the fruit juicy yet restrained, and the finish is clean, zesty and lightly savoury with lingering citrus freshness.

This is a naturally food friendly style. Perfect with grilled prawns, fried calamari, sushi, fish tacos, light salads, fresh cheeses, pesto pasta, roasted vegetables or simple antipasti. It is also simply delightful on its own, especially well chilled.
